The Department for Education (DfE) have published optional guidance to help school leaders and staff prioritise elements within the curriculum for educational recovery.

The guidance Teaching a broad and balanced curriculum for education recovery (released 2 July 2021) emphasises – for languages – a focus on high frequency vocabulary, re-visiting core grammar, and phonics. The document highlights the support offered by NCELP, including fully resourced schemes of work for French, German and Spanish for key stage 3 (see p.23).

NCELP Lead School, Blatchington Mill School in Hove is included as the languages case study. The Headteacher, Ashley Harrold, reflects on how they prioritised the central pillars of their curriculum: phonics, vocabulary and grammar (see pp.23-24).
